20 workers fall ill after gas leak in private agro-products unit in AP

Amaravati: At the least 20 labour, most of them, ladies, fallen sick after a leak of ammonium gas late on Thu. night in a dairy belonging to a private agro-products company in Putalapattu constituency in AP.

Awhile 3 of the sufferers have been moved to Ruia Hospital (3) within the temple town of Tirupati, 5 have been confessed to the CMC hospital (3) in Vellore in neighboring TN.

The remaining have been undergoing medication within the govt hospital (3) in Chittoor, police officer said.

Chittoor dist. Collector Narayana Bharat Gupta & Supervisor of Police Senthil Kumar toured the dairy unit & supervised the rescue operation.

As per the Collector, the gas leak took place awhile some of the welding work (5) has been being carried out within the unit.

“We’ve instructed an investigation & the exact cause of the mishap going to be disclosed only thereafter. The possible person carelessness angle going to also be probed,” Gupta stated.

He stated the condition of the labour undergoing medication has been stable.
