Afghanistan: Suicide bomber kills 9 at a checkpoint in south Afghanistan

Kabul: An Afghan officer states at the least 9 citizens involving 4 civilians have died when a suicide car bomber assaulted a military checkpoint in southern Afghanistan.

Omer Zwak, a spokesperson for the provincial governor in Helmand, stated Thu. a small child & 3 security personnel have been injured within the late Wed. night attack in Nahri Sarah dist.

Zwak stated civilians have been in a vehicle passing by when the attacker targetted the checkpoint. 2 ladies have been amongst those dead.

No 1 immediately said responsibility for the attack, however Taliban insurgents are in curb of most parts of Helmand area.

The violence comes even though Taliban chiefs & Afghan government-appointed negotiators are holding historical peace talks in Qatar, a Mideast nation where the Taliban set up a political workplace after they have been toppled from power within the 2001 U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.

The negotiations, that initiated previously this mo, are meant to end the fighting & establish a roadmap for a post-war community.
