CAA: Gunman Fires at Anti-CAA Protest in Shaheen Bagh Delhi Likely to Identified

A guy age 17, suspected in police custody following his firing at anti CAA protesters near Jamia Millia Islamia University, injuring a Jamia student.

A gunman has terminated in a protest rally against India’s new citizenship legislation close to the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in New Delhi, officials and witnesses said.

The assailant, identified by the authorities as a teenager, brandished a weapon that was single-barrel and shouted slogans against the protesters threatening a JMI student.

Soon after the incident, the teenager photo went viral who appeared to be a close friend with the man who was seen in a photo with BJP’s MLA Raja Singh.

Police in Southeast Delhi’s commissioner stated an investigation has been conducted into the episode and the defendant was detained.

“He [the gunman] was crying, ‘Delhi Police Zindabad’ [long reside Delhi authorities ] and ‘Who desires Aazadi [liberty], encounter, I will take at you’,” said watch Nazim Qazi, that was also a portion of this demonstration.

“And he then shot one flame. A pupil named Shadab was injured and was taken to the local Holy Family hospital,” he further added.

Yet another witness told Al Jazeera once the attack occurred the JMI pupils were marching towards the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi, the chief of India’s freedom struggle.

The march has been organized to match the death anniversary of Gandhi, who had been shot dead with a part of the Hindu Nathuram Godse, in 1948.
