CAA, NRC Row: Stop NPR, Opposition’s Call to Chief Ministers Against Citizens’ List

The NPR (National Population Register), work is yet to start across the country was expected to lay the fundamentals for rolling out an NRC (National Register of Citizens) soon to capture illegal migrants from the nation.

Now, the 20 opposition parties who met in Delhi determined that Chief Ministers who refuse to execute the National Register of Citizens must suspend the practice of National Population Register, which are the base of their taxpayers’ list.

The NPR has been placed on hold at Kerala and Bengal. The Chief Ministers of these countries also have announced that it would not be implemented by them.

Therefore a settlement signed in this respect now was seen as a challenge of sorts to BJP allies such as Nitish Kumar and Chief Ministers such as YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh & Naveen Patnaik of Odisha, that like to keep equal distance in the Congress and the BJP.

For rolling a National Register of Citizens in the potential to weed out illegal migrants in the 41, the National Population Register, work on which is to begin in a way, was expected to lay the groundwork.

The NRC was supposed to flush out foreigners. Critics said it had been skewed from the Muslims. After the rash of protests from the NRC and citizens’ record, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated there’s not any discussion of nationally NRC as of today.

Together with ministers of resistance Mr Reddy and Mr Patnaik announced they wouldn’t enable the National Register of Citizens and the execution of the Citizenship Amendment Act. However, no measure concerning the National Population Register was taken.

Nitish Kumar, who helped it pass in parliament and flipped his party’s stand beforehand, made his stance after nudges out of the senior leaders of his party now that was clear NRC.

There was “no question” of the need to execute the NRC at Bihar, Nitish Kumar stated in the meeting.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ceased work on it a month via an official arrangement and stated if the BJP wants to execute NRC in Bengal, it could happen “over my dead body”.

Functioning ceased but in a letter to 11 Chief Ministers, requested them to take steps.
