Congress leader suggests all-party meet for GHMC elections

Hyderabad(Hyd): Sr. Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Fri. conducted a gathering with the Chief Election Commissioner of Telangana (TL) State to debate the options to carry out Greater Hyderabad(Hyd) Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections safely amidst the COVID-19 epidemic, & stated that an all-party gathering must be held in this context.

Reddy stated that both ballot boxes & EVMs have an equal opportunity of furthermore spreading the COVID-19 infection & a gathering Xmust be conducted to debate the mode of elections & gather opinions of various political parties.

Awhile talking to ANI, Reddy stated “The state election commission has sought the opinion of the political parties as to that technique of election is to be followed to carry out the GHMC municipal elections. The 2 options are ballot boxes & EVMs & I pointed out the pros & cons of both the techniques in a gathering with state chief election commissioner, today.”

“The risk of infection is now in both EVMs & ballots, however as of now it’s time to decide that option is safer for the voters during the epidemic status. The Election Commission has sought the opinions of all parties & an all-party gathering must be held in this issue,” he added further.

Reddy added further that for Congress, safety is of topmost importance & that the opinions of experts going to also be taken due to the people’s safety.

“For the Congress party, citizens’s safety is of paramount importance, so we’ll await for the call to be made. On behalf of the party, we’ll consult experts in the domestic level & express our opinion,” he stated.
