Congress passes bill rebuking China over Hong Kong crackdown

Washington(WA): Congress has sanctioned a bill rebuking China over its crackdown in Hong Kong amidst rallies over a stringent “domestic security” law that outlaws so called subversive (or) terrorist acts, along with collusion with foreign enforces intervening in this city’s affairs.

Critics say the new law effectively ends the “1 nation, 2 systems” framework under that Hong Kong has been assured a high graduation of autonomy when it reverted from British to Chinese rule in 1997.

The U.S. legislation would enforce sanctions on teams that undermine Hong Kong’s autonomy, involving police units that have cracked down on Hong Kong protesters, along with Chinese Communist Party authorities accountable for enforcing the new security law. The bill also enforces sanctions on banks that accomplish business with entities identified to violate the law.

The Senate gave final legislative sanction to the measure on Thu., a day after the Home sanctioned it. It as of now goes to the White Home.

In front of the Senate vote, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian stated no number of stress from external enforces can “shake China’s determination & going to to save domestic sovereignty & Hong Kong’s prosperity & stability”.

He pushed the US to abide by Intl. law & block interfering in Hong Kong’s affairs, & not sign the sanction bill into law.

In case President Donald Trump signs the bill, “China going to definitely take (2) powerful countermeasures, & all implications going to be borne by this US side,” Zhao informed journalists on Thu..

The White Home declined to comment, however in a TV interview on Thu., Vice President Mike Pence named the new Hong Kong security law a betrayal of the Intl. settlement China signed.

“President Trump has made it evident that we’re going to be modifying our trading relationship & the trading status with regard to Hong Kong & we’re going to continue to speak out on behalf of the citizens of Hong Kong & on behalf of person rights of citizens in China, Pence informed CNBC.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., a co-sponsor of the Senate bill, stated passage of the “Hong Kong Autonomy Act” makes it evident that the United States “won’t stand by as China seeks to crush freedom, person rights & democracy in Hong Kong”.

The Chinese govt “is already flagrantly utilizing their own new officials to punish & imprison those those have stood up over the previous implementation of their own sweeping domestic security law,” Van Hollen stated.

“Our legislation mandates serious implications on those who attend in this unconscionable repression.”

Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., the bill’s different lead sponsor, pushed Trump to sign it into law. “With our bill, the CCP going to learn there have been ramifications for repressing Hong Kongers’ freedom,” Toomey stated, quoting to the Chinese Communist Party.

Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi also praised the sanctions bill as an urgently required reaction to the cowardly Chinese govt’s passage of its so called domestic security law.”

Lawmakers from both parties have pushed the Trump administration to take (2) powerful action in reaction to the crackdown by China over the previous British territory, that has been granted partial sovereignty under a treaty that taken impact in 1997.
