Prof Mohammed Rahmat Ali, son of Mohammed Maroof Ali, age 90, moved far away peacefully on Sat. August 22 in Herndon, Virginia(VA), a suburb of Washington(WA) DC, USA.
It’s with deep sorrow that we wish to convey that 1 of our loved & respected Professor, Prof Rehmat Ali of the Dept. of Economics, expired today (22 Aug 2024) in Washington(WA) DC.
Prof Rahmat Ali has been born in Jun 1930 in Hyderabad(Hyd) & joined Jamia Millia Islamia in 1962. Prof Rahmat Ali did his own MS for the Southern Illinois(IL) University. He retired as a Professor of Economic in 1995. Prof Rahmat Ali has been one such stalwarts of Jamia, almost the last of a generation of venerable teachers like Professor N Meenai, Professor Anwar Siddiqui, Professor Iqbal Mehdi, Professor Ziaul Hasan Farooqi, Professor Salamatullah, Professor Moeenuddin, Professor Mujeeb Rizvi, Professor A W B Qadri and so on.
Prof Rahmat Ali has been a quite vibrant personality on the campus, well-known for his own wit & humor. His own daughter Arifa also provided within the Dept. of Sociology for sometime & is as of now a Professor in University of Michigan(MI). His own son, Rizwan who studied Engineering(engr.) in Jamia, is a renowned Alumni Activist within the US & is based in Chicago.
Prof Rahmat Ali managed numerous university responsibilities involving Head of the Dept. of Economics, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Pro-Vice Chancellor. He has been loved & respected by all sections of the Jamia baradari. We’re fortunate that his own son Rizwan, continues to retain the link (connection) with Jamia by being the creator member of the Jamia Alumni Association within the USA.
