A gunman was killed Monday in a firefight after he shot in Brooklyn, between seven police officers, cops said.
None of the officers were hurt in the gun battle, authorities said.
Uniformed officers were patrolling near Howard and Dumont paths in Brownsville roughly 2:30 a.m. if they found a suspicious man wearing a mask, NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan explained.
“As soon as the officers that had been in their own patrol car tried to talk to the guy, he instantly fled 788 Howard Ave.,” Monahan stated in an early morning press conference.
“One officer exited the automobile and another two drove onto Howard Avenue,” he explained. “The perpetrator fired several rounds in their car, hitting it. The officer that exited the automobile traded gunfire. On the other hand, the perpetrator fled from the officers.”
“Approximately 30 minutes after, a resident alerted officers that a guy tried to split into a lawn on Howard Avenue,” the main official said.
They came under a hail of gunfire and have been trapped from the gunman as officers entered the yard, he explained.
Where the guy continued shooting officers, such as the Emergency Service Unit made entrance to the backyard region.
“Our officers returned fire and the man was subsequently taken into custody,” Monahan said.
Was taken to Brookdale Hospital.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
A total of seven cops fired their guns — one on others and Howard Avenue ” the chief said.
“There were lots of rounds. Our officers fired Around nine rounds on Howard Avenue. It is still an approximation, but at the backyard it appears like we terminated 55 rounds,” Monahan said.
“We are still counting his shell casings to understand how many he fired but he chased on Howard Avenue and at the rear yard,” he added about the shot.
“The excellent job by our cops today shows, once more, how they hesitate to go into harm’s way to keep our town safe,” the chief added.
