Patients sue Indiana hospital on disease exposure

GOSHEN, Ind. — Over 1,000 surgical patients have been having a northern Indiana hospital after being advised that a sterilization failure might have subjected them to fatal infections.

The Elkhart Truth accounts that the lawsuit was filed last week on behalf of individual Linda Gierek and many others that had surgery between April and September. It alleges that the patients were vulnerable to hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.

The hospital advised a sterilization technician didn’t finish one step in the practice of a few gears impacting 1,182 patients.

Gierek states that vulnerability triggered distress and continuing distress.

Hospital officials have not immediately returned A message seeking comment.
