Hyderabad(Hyd): Some of the Urban Slums south of the city are handling Coronavirus epidemic relatively best than the core regions of the city gratitude to the commitment & tough work (5) of the ASHA labour & society chiefs, discloses a survey finished by this NGO Contributing Hand Foundation.
The NGO, undertook a survey with aid of Asha labour & society volunteers in regarding 10 slums namely — Jahangirabad, Ghouse Nagar, Noori Nagar, Hashimabad, Ismail Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Hussain Nagar, Patel Nagar — falling within the Chandryanguta constituency within the Barkas division to assess the COVID-19 status & just how the slums are faring best than the core city.
The above slums have approximately 1 to 1 & half lakhs of public & recorded only 46 positive instances within the last 30 days. No instances recorded before from that statistics collected from that regional primary healthcare center.
Over 308 members, mostly those who had contacts with positive instances & neighbors, have been put under house quarantine & confinement.
Most of the instances had mild to moderate signs. The survey observed that efficient supervising & medication given in the door step by Asha labour in house quarantine led to 23 instances recovered fully out of the 46 recorded in this cluster of slums during this last one-month period.
Fourteen Asha labour & regarding 5 society chiefs are playing a key role in approaching out to suspected & positive instances in this cluster, door to door surveillance, tracking the positive instances, mobilising the primary contacts for checking & isolating the ones tested positive(+ve) into house isolation. Clearly the positive results speak for themselves.
The moment they gain the list of positive instances they’re checking the home, verifying the health condition, counselling the patient for self-isolation, separate toilet ability & great hygiene. All family (4) members are also being counselled & their own health statuses are being checked each day by this Asha labour.
Besides, 5 homes to the left & right of the positive complaint are being put within the confinement zone & banners are being put as many as sensitise the people to retain safe gap from this region. All members within the confinement zone are being checked daily for fever & different signs.
Medicines are being supplied to the door step for the positive complaint & contacts & a tight see is being kept by this society volunteers on their own movement (or) any violation of house quarantine regulations.
All this is being finished within the supervision of the Medical Official in the Urban Primary Health Care Center, Bandlaguda.
The model endorsed in some urban slums is similar to what was finished in Dharavi, Mumbai (Bombay) & is demonstrating great results & we’re stopping all mass congregations. “Even weekly bazaars are as of now suspended as the infection could spread easily,” stated Mr. Feroz Mohammed, a regional society leader functioning within the ground.

“Besides, core regions of the city have a distinct personal life style pattern, huge families, sedentary personal life styles, co-morbidities involving obesity, congested households, poverty-stricken air quality because of pollution, poverty-stricken dietary habits are putting the citizens mostly middle & upper middle class are under high risk of exposure to the COVID-19.
Consequently, the infection rate & mortality is relatively higher,” he sums.
